Benediction

9th October 2014

‘The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace.’    Numbers 6:24-26

Today I must attempt to write a benediction in this style. It is an impossible task – this Aaronic, or priestly blessing from the Old Testament is perfect. How can I hope to come anywhere near the depth of its simple beauty?

So this is the best I could come up with:

May the Lord behold you in the multitude, and smile.
May the Lord bestow His favour on you, with an open hand.
May He guide you in the darkness, and comfort you when you fall.
May the Lord walk with you through all eternity, and give you His peace.
